Status quo survey on the topic of “Smart Village” in Waldsolms, Germany

Where does Waldsolms stand today, and where is there still potential for development on the path to becoming a smart village? These questions were the focus of the status quo survey in Waldsolms, in which a total of 70 citizens participated. The survey was conducted as part of the Ruraled project and provides valuable insights into the current strengths and weaknesses of the community, as well as the ideas and expectations of the population regarding the future of a smart village.

The results show that Waldsolms faces many challenges, as do other villages in Germany, but many citizens see potential for interaction and cooperation. There is particular interest in projects that make everyday life easier – for example, through digital platforms, improved mobility options, or opportunities for participation. This also includes promoting associations by strengthening volunteer work.

It also became clear that sustainability and a livable, future-proof village are seen as central topics for a “smart” community. The aim is to strengthen existing structures and promote community life.

Based on these results, a workshop is now planned to develop a vision for the Smart Village Waldsolms together with stakeholders and citizens of the community. The aim is to work with citizens, associations, institutions, and the administration to develop concrete project ideas and areas of action.
