From village to “Smart village”, first Local Workshop in Ukraina

The first of six planned training seminars within the framework of the RURALED project took place at SMC HPHE in Kyiv on 22 May 2025.

The seminar presented the concept of ‘Smart Village’ and the best practices for implementing it in Europe and Ukraine.

Participants had the opportunity to learn more about the concept of a ‘smart village’, its key aspects, and how to implement it in their community.

Ukraine already has several successful examples of implementing this concept. These include the Agroecological and Recreational Complex ‘Frumushyka Nova’, the Borodyn SMART Community, the MR Leader Programme for kindergartens in the Tereshkiv community in the Poltava region and the digitalisation of the separate waste collection process in the Chortkiv community.

To help villages create and implement ‘smart village’ strategies, the training seminar presented a ‘Roadmap’, which included the main tools for the initial stages of implementing this idea.

The seminar attracted a large audience, including representatives from various communities, the Association of Agricultural Advisory Services, the National Development Agency of Ukraine, the Association of Rural Self-Government, colleges, agribusinesses, scientific institutions and students.

This was the first of six planned seminars, so we hope that the next events will be equally interesting.
