With the opening of the Centre for Security and Social Cohesion, the first of its kind in the area, an important milestone was reached in improving security and unity in the Mena region.
Previously, the community of Mena had a modest ‘Safe Community’ programme, which included an alarm and video surveillance system, but the project was limited by a small budget.
Yuriy Stalnichenko, secretary of the Mena City Council, emphasised the transformative impact of this collaborative effort. The project now includes an advanced video surveillance network, a DVR system capable of connecting up to 1,000 cameras and 17 alarm systems.
However, as important as technology is, Stalnichenko emphasised that true security comes from cooperation between people. The centre’s mission goes beyond physical security: it seeks to build trust, strengthen relationships and promote a culture of mutual support. Through community events, training programmes and collaborative exercises, the centre aims to bring people together, ensuring that each resident understands their role in maintaining the safety and well-being of the entire community.
The centre is not just a place for emergency preparedness: it is a space where neighbours can come together, learn from each other and become active participants in creating a safe and cohesive environment. In times of uncertainty, especially during war, the bond between people becomes a fundamental pillar of resilience. The community of Mena, now more than ever, has a place where both security and solidarity thrive.
