2025 will be the European Year of Digital Citizenship Education.
One of the aims of the initiative, proposed by the Council of Europe, is to bring awareness of the benefits of being a digital citizen with sufficient knowledge and critical understanding of the digital environment to exploit opportunities and overcome challenges. The aim will later turn into a day or week dedicated to this topic each year.
The initiative also aims to collect and disseminate information on skills, methods (especially innovative ones) and tools used for teaching and learning digital citizenship education, including those developed within other international initiatives.
Digital technical skills are one of the key elements identified by the RURALE project when defining the skills needed for the development of Smart Villages, together with future literacy, organisational and managerial skills, community facilitation and awareness of sustainability issues.
